Level 2: Developing Your Acting Skills
- For those who have had previous acting experience or training

Typically includes:
- Experiment with various acting techniques to deepen your craft and confidence
- Learn personal warm-up routines for vocal and physical preparedness.
- Introduction to Monologues
- Devise your own scene from an actor’s perspective
- Develop independence in rehearsing, auditioning, and character-building.
- Explore Uta Hagen, Ken Rea, animal studies, monologues, physical theatre, and Shakespeare
Course Overview
The Level 2 "Self-Sufficient Actor" course focuses on developing authenticity and independence in performance. You will learn techniques for preparing for rehearsals, auditions, and building characters. The course emphasises self-reliance, encouraging you to develop a personalised toolkit of exercises and warm-ups to support your practice outside of class.
Through a combination of practical skills and exploration of different theatre styles, you will deepen your understanding of acting techniques. You will engage with a range of theatre practitioners, including Uta Hagen and Ken Rea, and explore animal studies, monologues, physical theatre, and Shakespearean language. The curriculum spans contemporary scenes, devised work, modern classical texts allowing you to progressively challenge yourself with increasingly complex material.
In addition to technical growth, the course fosters reflection and collaboration. You will develop your ability to give and receive feedback in a supportive environment and will have opportunities for one-on-one feedback sessions with their core tutor to reflect on your progress and set personalised goals. Informal homework, such as line learning and independent rehearsal, is encouraged, with flexibility for students balancing busy lives. By the end of the course, you will be able to confidently apply your expanding toolkit to perform with greater poise.
SHOWCASE
The term concludes with a showcase performance, where you'll work in pairs or small groups to present short scenes to an audience of fellow participants, tutors, and family. This final sharing is not a formal performance but part of the learning process, helping you manage stage nerves and celebrate the progress of other groups.
The showcase fosters a strong community spirit, as working together throughout the term helps everyone achieve more than they imagined, with the local TAL community coming together to celebrate the collective journey.
Entry Requirements
- Completion of Level 1 or other formal training/prior acting experience is required.
- A good standard of English language is required.
- An open mind and the desire to grow and work as a team with other like-minded people.
